A Miami woman is facing felony child abuse charges after she allegedly choked and bit her 16-year-old daughter during a dispute over housework the day before Thanksgiving.
Police say 36-year-old Jamika Jackson argued with her daughter about “cleaning a mess” when the confrontation escalated. According to the arrest report, Jackson slapped the teen across the mouth and threw her to the floor.
Investigators say Jackson then put the girl in a chokehold from behind. The teen told officers she struggled to breathe and begged her mother to stop. A witness reported that Jackson also bit the girl on the arm during the struggle.
The teen suffered a cut inside her mouth, a scraped throat, and a puncture wound consistent with a bite mark on her left arm.
Police say Jackson admitted to slapping, throwing, and choking her daughter because she was upset about the girl’s “bad attitude.”
Jackson has pleaded not guilty. She is scheduled to return to court for arraignment on January 23.
