Bonds Set At $2 Million Each For 2 Men Charged With Murder In Connection With Fatal Shooting Outside Silsbee Nightclub Early Sunday

Two men are facing murder charges following a shooting early Sunday on Fresenius Rd near Silsbee that killed two Kountze men, according to officials.

Deontray Deshunn Carey Jr., 22, of Beaumont, and Kenny Ray Johnson, 21, of Baytown, have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Henry Carey Jr., 36, and Khalil Ahmadrian Gooch, 29, both of Kountze, according to Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis.

Hardin County Justice of the Peace Mark Ames arraigned both accused on Monday morning. Carey is being held on two $1 million bonds for murder and $10,000 for possession of a stolen firearm. Johnson has two $1 million bonds for the murder charges. Davis said neither had been released.

Deputies were dispatched to the 4000 block of Fresenius Rd at 2:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a shooting involving two victims. Both men’s bodies were discovered beside the roadside with gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Davis, the initial inquiry suggests that all four guys went to a nightclub on Fresenius Road. According to the sheriff, the males were involved in a small automobile accident as they were leaving the parking area.

“An altercation then took place between the men, which eventually led to the shooting,” Davis told reporters.

Carey and Johnson fled the scene but were apprehended by Lumberton police officers and arrested on unrelated counts.

Davis stated that the individuals were initially identified as persons of interest before being detained. Following further investigation and evidence collection, the couple was charged with murder.

They remain in the Hardin County Jail on warrants issued by Rod Ousley, the Hardin County Justice of the Peace.

Ousley has ordered autopsies for both victims. The Silsbee and Lumberton police departments are aiding in the investigation.

Officials are asking anyone with information regarding the event to call the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office at 409-246-5255 or Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS.

This is a developing story. We will provide an update as soon as we obtain additional verifiable information.
