Cavaliers Overcome First Half Deficit, Take Down Stone

The Cookeville Cavaliers boys basketball team beat Stone Memorial 66 to 56, in the consolation game Tuesday night in Sparta.

The Cavaliers erased a five point halftime deficit and a three point disadvantage as the fourth quarter started to take down Stone Memorial.

Stone Memorial held a 47 to 44 lead as the fourth quarter started but saw the Cavaliers clamp down on their offense in the final stanza, as the Panthers only scored nine fourth quarter points.

Cookeville hit on 11 of their 15 free throw attempts as Stone Memorial hit six of their 10 tries. Cookeville also held an advantage from behind the three point line as the Cavaliers hit seven, three’s compared to just four made three’s from Stone Memorial.

Cookeville’s offense erupted for 22 points in the final period to complete the comeback. Zach Hall led the Cavaliers with 18 points on the night. Will Horner added in 13 points of his own and Bailey Gilliam rounded out Cookeville’s double digit scorers with 12 points.

Zach Boyd scored a team high 14 points for Stone Memorial and Zach Street scored 12 points also. Jack Eldridge dropped in 10 points.

Cookeville will travel to the two seed from District Five Saturday night as Stone Memorial will faced off against the one seed from District Five as well.
