11 Upper Cumberland Football Teams Headed To Post Season Friday

Livingston Academy leads the Upper Cumberland into the post-season as one of two undefeated teams in 4-A football. Elizabethton finished perfect in region one. The Wildcats will host (3-7) Maplewood Friday night in Livingston. The winner of that game would face the winner of (8-2) Nolensville vs (5-5) Macon County.

Dekalb County and Stone Memorial play in the other side of that 4-A bracket. The Tigers host (7-3) Tullahoma Friday night in Smithville. Dekalb County finished the regular season 6-4, good for second place in region three. (3-7) Stone Memorial goes to perennial power Marshall County for its opening round game Friday. The region four winner stands (8-2).

(9-1) Hardin County, (9-1) Haywood) and (8-2) Millington rank as some of the teams to watch from west Tennessee in 4-A football.

Undefeated Monterey will begin its march to Cookeville Friday night hosting (2-8) Whitwell. With a win, the (10-0) Wildcats would face the winner of (3-7) Gordonsville vs (6-4) Copper Basin in week two. As the number one seed, Monterey would host the second round game.

(7-3) Clay County will host (4-6) Sale Creek Friday night in Celina. A possible matchup with perennial power South Pittsburg awaits the winner in round two. South Pittsburg enters the playoffs undefeated.

Several 1-A matchups remain unscheduled Saturday morning as the TSSAA has called a special meeting for Tuesday to deal with Fayetteville. The TSSAA said the school used an ineligible player but the school has challenged that ruling. The TSSAA Board of Control will meet Tuesday and will allow those schools affected to move their games to Saturday night.

In the 3-A bracket, Upperman begins its post-season battle with hosting region three’s Signal Mountain Friday night. The Eagles finished 6-4.

York Institute faces the toughest test among Upper Cumberland schools. The (3-7) Dragons visit Loudon, undefeated at 10-0. In that same bracket, (6-4) Smith County will host (7-3) Sweetwater Friday night.

(9-1) Alcoa, (8-1) Red Bank look join Upperman as the teams to beat in the east side of the bracket. In the middle/west side, Pearl Cohn enters the post-season undefeated with South Gibson at 9-1 and Covington 8-2.

(5-5) Cookeville finished third in region three and will travel to Hendersonville to open the postseason. The (5-5) Commandos finished first in region four winning three of their last four.
